What the heck is Five Cent Whiskey?

I stole the term five cent whiskey from a scene description in Eugene O'Neill's THE ICEMAN COMETH (theatre kid alert).

O’Neill is talking about a dive bar where a bunch of misfits gather. To me, it symbolizes a place that's open-hearted, authentic, and unpretentious. Weirdos are welcome. There are no cool kids here. The drinks are cheap, the dreams are big, and — like O’Neill’s play — everyone is fully themselves. Their funny, brave, flawed, complicated selves.

That’s what I strive to make my work about. Full of humanity and heart. I've written copy and created content with famous athletes, beloved character actors, CEOs, U.S. Senators, and long-shot queer political candidates. All of them had a perspective, a voice. I try to empathetically honor their voice so they might be fully and authentically seen. Then, somehow, I believe, we all might become a little better — when we truly, and deeply see each other.

That's Five Cent Whiskey.
